THE PILLBOX: NEW STATESMAN

A review in this weeks issue of the New Statesman by Neel Mukherjee....

'Hughes has captured something ineluctably English in the combination of seediness, violence, sensationlism and humour; the book's biggest effect, however is the resonance of the present-day story, which will leave at least one haunting question ringing in your head.'

  1. I received my copy of Pillbox last week. I'm stretching out the experience by taking my time to sound out the big words and look them up in the dictionary, and by reflecting upon conger eels and used up breasts. So far, it's everything I expected from you and I now have a ringing question to look forward to haunting my head.
